Women’s Hockey Falls in Overtime in Season Opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (0-1-0) dropped its season opener at St. Olaf (1-0-0) by a 5-4 final in overtime on Friday.
 
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) got the Pointers on the board just 2:25 into the game.  Newly minted captain Anna Chaney got the assist on the first goal of the season.
 
The Oles tied the game late in the first and took the lead at 5:25 of the second.
 
Zipp got her second point of the night setting up Haley Sellers (Kenosha, Wis./Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) for the goal to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the second.
 
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) gave UWSP the lead again at 14:22 of the second.  Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) got an assist on the goal.
 
The teams traded goal in the final minute of the second period.  St. Olaf tied the game at 3-3 with 22 seconds left in the period.  Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) scored her first career goal with just two ticks on the clock.  Sellers notched an assist for her second point of the night for a 4-3 UWSP lead heading to the third.
 
Midway through the third, the Oles tied the game at 4-4.  The Pointers forced overtime, but the Oles nabbed the game-winner just 1:15 into the three-on-three extra stanza.
 
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 27 saves in net for the Pointers.  St. Olaf goaltenders had 31 saves.
 
The teams close out the weekend series in Northfield on Saturday (Oct. 30) at 2:00 p.m.
