DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (1-0-0) picked up a 4-3 win at St. Norbert (0-1-0) to open the season on Friday night.
 
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) and David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) each had two points on the night, including Fader's game-winning goal.
 
UWSP scored two goals in fast succession at 7:04 and 7:27 of the first period.  Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn.) was the first Pointer to find the back of the net on assists from Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn.) and Hill.
 
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) put the Pointers up a pair of goals just 33 seconds later.  Fader assisted on the goal for his first point of the night.
 
Late in the first, the Green Knights cut the Pointers' lead in half.
 
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) pushed UWSP's advantage back to two with his first tally in a Pointers' sweater.  Hill got his second point of the night and Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) also got an assist on the goal at 3:42.
 
SNC got a goal back less than two minutes later to make it a one-goal game again.
 
At 9:29 of the second, Fader tallied an unassisted goal, the eventual game-winner, for a 4-2 lead.
 
UWSP held the two-goal advantage until late in the third.  With just 1:37 left in regulation, the Green Knight got back within one.
 
UWSP goaltender Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) held the fort late as the Pointers prevailed with the 4-3 victory.  Wagner had 21 saves on the night.  SNC goaltender Johnny Roberts made 28 saves.
 
The Pointers and Green Knights complete the home-and-home on Saturday (Oct. 30).  Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.  Tickets are available at tickets.uwsp.edu or at the door beginning at 6:00 p.m. Fans are required to wear a face covering inside Willett Arena for the game.
