Pointers Fall to Pioneers in League Action

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (2-5, 0-4) saw its skid hit five in a 45-21 loss at UW-Platteville (2-5, 1-3).

Trey Schroeder (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) accounted for all three of UWSP's scores, throwing two touchdown passes and running for another.  He completed 19 passes for 195 yards.

Vercion Gammel (Milwaukee, Wis./Lincoln) led UWSP rushers with 57 yards on eight carries.  Quinn Calvin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) made his offensive debut with five runs for 30 yards.

Joe Aguilera (Dorchester, Wis./Abbotsford) caught a team-best seven passes for 96 yards.  Jeremy Kobe (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) made four receptions, including a touchdown. Ernie LaSpisa (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) caught the other touchdown pass.

Defensively, Kameron Kryzanski (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) again led all players in tackles, racking up 11 on Saturday.  He had one of UWSP's four tackles for loss.

After UWSP's opening drive stalled near midfield, the Pioneers took their first offensive drive 99 yards in 12 plays for a 7-0 lead.

Jahi Stigall (Chicago, Ill./DePaul College Prep) returned the ensuing kickoff to near midfield. Four plays later, Schroeder crossed the goal line from a yard out to tie the game at 7-7.

The Pioneers engineered scoring drives on the next two possessions while forcing the Pointers into three-and-out scenarios as UWSP trailed 21-7 early in the second quarter.

The teams traded punts through the middle portion of the second quarter, but the Pioneers punched it in for another touchdown just over two minutes before halftime.

UWP took the opening drive of the second half the distance and turned a UWSP turnover into another touchdown as the Pointers faced a 42-7 deficit.

Schroeder settled in and orchestrated a 4-for-4 drive capped by a one-yard connection with Kobe for a touchdown.

After the Pointers' defense held the Pioneers to a field goal, Schroeder got back to work.  He completed seven passes and drove UWSP 69 yards.  He capped the drive with an eight-yard strike to LaSpisa to complete the scoring.

The Pointers return home for a matchup against UW-La Crosse next Saturday (Oct. 30). Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
