UWSP Volleyball Sweeps Carroll for 20th Win of Season

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 21 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (20-4) picked up its 20th win of the year in straight-sets fashion over visiting Carroll (6-16) on Friday.
 
Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) led all players with 11 kills and hit. 563 for the match.  Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was also in double figures with 10 kills
 
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players with 31 assists and Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had a match-high 14 digs.
 
Lau had three early kills in a 9-1 run as the Pointers seized control of the first set, 10-3.  Kopp added a pair of kills and Guresi Mena (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) capped a 7-0 run with an ace for a 20-6 advantage.  Lau closed the set with three more kills for a 25-12 set one win.
 
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had two kills early in the second set as UWSP opened in front 5-1.  Kopp put the Pointers up 13-5 with consecutive kills in a 6-0 run.  Kopp had three more kills as UWSP wrapped up the set on a 12-5 run to take the second set, 25-12.
 
Michalske had a kill and an ace in a 5-1 burst as UWSP eked ahead 11-8 in the third set.  Lau had two kills and combined with Mosinski on a block in a 6-0 run to put the Pointers in front 17-10.  Mena and Kopp recorded three-straight kills and Mosinski ended the match with a thump in the 25-20 set win.
 
The Pointers host No. 9 UW-Whitewater in league play on Saturday (Oct. 16).  Match time is slated for 6:00 p.m. in Berg Gym and is UWSP's Cancer Awareness night.  The Pointers will recognize Grace Regnier and her courageous battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
