MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 13 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (14-6-3, 8-2-3) got goals from seven different players in an 8-3 win at UW-Stout (6-16-1, 5-8-0) to complete the series sweep. In UWSP's three games against UW-Stout this season, the Pointers racked up 23 goals.
It took the Pointers just 34 seconds to jump in front as
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) tallied UWSP's first goal.
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) and
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) provided assists. Less than a minute later,
Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio/) powered in an unassisted goal for a 2-0 lead.
Drew McLean (Waterford, Mich./) scored at 6:21 of the first to increase the lead to 3-0.
Brennen Miller (Keller, Texas/) added a helper on the play.
In the second period, the Blue Devils scored twice to make it a one-goal game.
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) scored his first of the night at 14:08 on assists from
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C./) and Miller. Stout added a power-play goal and UWSP's lead was one heading to the third period.
Just 16 seconds into the third, McElhenie scored his team-leading 14th goal of the year. Zech and O'Brien had assists. Miller scored his first goal of the night, third point of the game, to extend the lead to 6-3. Raver and Kelly added helpers.
Raver netted his second of the night on the power play to put the game out of reach with O'Brien getting his third assist of the night.
Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./) rounded out the scoring with Roo and
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) providing assists.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) played the final 40 minutes and earned his first career win with 20 saves.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made nine stops in the first period. UW-Stout goaltenders Evan Bisek and Brady Meyers combined for 29 saves.
The Pointers return home for a weekend series against Northland to close out the regular season. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 14) and Saturday (Feb. 15).
