STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (15-6-3, 9-2-3) avenged an early-season defeat with a 6-1 victory over Northland (4-19-1, 1-13-0) on Friday.
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C./) got the scoring underway at the 7:46 mark of the first period on an assist from
Danny Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./). Less than a minute later, the Lumberjacks tied the game at 1-1.
Just 30 seconds later,
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) netted his team-leading 15th of the year and the eventual game-winner.
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) had an assist on the play.
In the second period,
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) scored his first of the night with
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) and Brenne Miller picking up assists. Later in the second, Raver scored a goal of his own with
Drew McLean (Waterford, Mich./) getting an assist.
Quagliata netted his second of the night four minutes into the third period with
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn./) with assists. Zech scored a minute-and-a-half later to close out the scoring. McElhenie and
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) added helpers.
UWSP goaltender
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) needed to make just 17 saves in the win. NC goaltender Gennaro Anzevino had 32 saves.
The Pointers close out the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 15) with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Northland.
