MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (13-6-3, 7-2-3) was unfazed by an early goal in a 9-1 win at UW-Stout (6-15-1, 5-7-0) on Friday.
UW-Stout scored the first goal of the game just 3:47 into the first period.
The Pointers erased the deficit 89 seconds later.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) netted his first of the game with
Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./) and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn./) assisting on the play. Fader scored again at the 8:11 mark of the first with Roo and MacKellar adding helpers again.
Late in the first,
Brennen Miller (Keller, Texas/) scored his first of the game to make it 3-1.
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) and
Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio/) had assists.
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) joined the list of goal scorers in the second period on a helper from
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./).
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) and Roo also scored in the second period to increase the lead to 6-1.
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C./),
Kellen Tharaldson (Wausau, Wis./), Raver and MacKellar had assists.
In the third, UWSP's offense kept rolling with Raver, Miller and MacKellar each finding the back of the net.
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) and Roo each had two assists in the period and Tharaldson adding his second of the game.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) and
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) combined for 23 saves in the win for UWSP. Blue Devils goaltenders Brennan Kitchen and Brady Meyers stopped 33 shots.
The Pointers and Blue Devils face off again in Menomonie on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 7:00 p.m. in UWSP final road game of the regular season.
