Special Teams Pivotal in Women’s Hockey Conference Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-11-6, 1-8-3) scored a pair of power-plays goals, but a pair of shorthanded goals against gave visiting UW-Superior (15-6-1, 5-5-0) a 3-2 win in overtime.
 
Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) got the Pointers on the board first with a power-play tally at the 11:07 mark of the second period.  Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) got an assist on the play.
 
Later in the second, the Yellowjackets evened the score at 1-1 with the only even-strength goal of the game.
 
Early in the third period. UWS scored its first shorthanded goal of the game.
 
Senior Maddie Monroe (Aurora, Ill./Batavia) netted the game-tying goal at the 6:26 mark of the third.  Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) assisted on the goal for her team-leading 16th point of the season.
 
For the second-straight game, the Pointers earned a power-play opportunity in overtime, but the Yellowjackets put in another shorthanded goal for the win.
 
UWSP senior goaltender Marit Larson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) had 27 saves.  UWS goaltender McKenzie Whalen had 32 saves.
 
The Pointers close out the regular season on Tuesday (Feb. 18) at 7:00 p.m. against Concordia (Wis.). Puck drop at Ice Hawks Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
