EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-9-4, 1-6-1) gave up an early goal and was unable to rally back in a 4-0 loss at No. 3 UW-Eau Claire (17-2-2, 7-0-1) on Saturday.
The Blugolds got on the board just 16 seconds into the game. The Pointers held the deficit at one until the 12:07 mark of the first when UWEC took a 2-0 lead. With nine seconds left in the first, the Blugolds added a third goal.
In the second period, UWEC made it 4-0 just 2:01 into the stanza. Senior goaltender
Marit Larson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) came on with 15:36 left in the second period and held the Blugolds without a goal the remainder of the way.
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) led the Pointers with three shots on goal.
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) added two as the Pointers were out-shot 43-17 in the game.
Larson made 22 saves and
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) stopped 17 for the Pointers. Erin Connolly made 17 saves for UWEC.
The Pointers continue the road trip with a weekend series at Northland starting on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 7:00 p.m.
