STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-8-4, 1-5-1) earned a tough 1-1 tie against No. 3 UW-Eau Claire (16-2-2, 6-0-1) on Friday night.
Junior
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Her goal at 10:15 of the first was her team-leading 10th of the season.
Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) and
Kiley Hahner (Wausau, Wis./West) recorded assists on the play.
The lead was short-lived as the Blugolds tied the game on the power play at 14:09 of the first.
After one period, the Pointers were out-shooting the Blugolds, 11-4. Neither team was able to find a tie-breaking goal as the teams played pretty equally the remainder of the game with UWEC recording just one more shot than UWSP over the final 45 minutes of play.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) was the beneficiary of a solid defensive performance by UWSP. She made 18 saves. UWEC goaltender Erin Connolly stopped 24 UWSP shots.
The teams close out the season series in Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 1). Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
