STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (10-6-3, 4-2-3) ran its unbeaten streak to seven games with a 3-0 shutout of visiting UW-River Falls (12-5-3, 4-4-2) on Saturday.
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) broke the scoreless tie late in the first with a power-play goal at 16:32.
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) picked up his third point of the weekend and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn./) also had an assist.
The score remained 1-0 until the 8:29 mark of the third period when
Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, N.J./) doubled the lead.
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) and
Danny Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./) provided assists on the play.
A minute and a half later,
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) pushed the lead to 3-0 with his team-best 12th goal of the season.
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) and
Kellen Tharaldson (Wausau, Wis./) had helpers on the goal.
UWSP goaltender
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) needed to make just 12 saves for the shutout. UWRF goaltender Zach Quinn had 32 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior on Thursday (Jan. 30) for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Yellowjackets.
