Massive Fourth Quarter Rally Nets Pointers Road Win

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (8-10, 3-4) erased an 16-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to beat UW-Stout (12-6, 3-4) on the road Saturday, 65-63.

Junior Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) led all scorers with 19 points and she snagged a game-high eight rebounds.  Fellow junior Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) added 18 points and seven boards.

Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) was also in double figures, scoring seven of her 11 points in the pivotal fourth quarter comeback.

Greenheck scored four of UWSP 10 points in the first half, but the Pointers trailed 21-10 after the Blue Devils ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run.

Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) ended a three-and-a-half minute drought by both teams to begin the second quarter.  Collins completed an and-one and piggy-backed a Cerrato three with one of her own as UWSP got within 26-21.  Collins and Greenheck combined for the final nine points of the half as the Pointers trailed just 34-30 at the break.

The Blue Devils began the third quarter on a 16-2 run until Collins made UWSP's first field goal with 3:15 left.  Schmidt surfaced offensively with four points late in the third, but the Pointers trailed 58-42 heading to the fourth.

Greenheck made layups nearly two minutes apart as UWSP began the comeback and cut the deficit to 10.  Schmidt buried consecutive three-pointers as UWSP trimmed the lead to five with 3:35 to go.  Two free throws by Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) tied the game at 61-61 with 1:16 remaining.  After two throws by Stout, Greenheck tied the game with a layup.  Collins hit 1-of-2 free throws to give UWSP its first lead of the game, 64-63, with16 seconds left.  A missed shot by the Blue Devils was blocked by Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and Schmidt was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play.  She hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe and a last second potential game-tying shot was no good as the Pointers prevailed.

UWSP travels to UW-River Falls on Wednesday (Jan. 29) for a 7:00 p.m. tip against the Falcons.
