STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) scored a pair of goals as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (9-6-3, 3-2-3) rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie against UW-River Falls (12-4-3, 4-3-2) in conference action Friday night.
The Falcons took the lead on a power-play goal 2:32 in the second period. The potent UWRF special teams scored just 41 seconds into the man advantage.
At 5:08 of the second, the Falcons were awarded a penalty shot and converted for a 2-0 lead.
Zech netted his first of the game on the power play at 11:35 of the second.
Drew McLean (Waterford, Mich./) and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn./) picked up assists on the goal.
UWSP goaltender
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) kept it a one-goal game heading to the third with a diving save late in the second period.
Zech knotted the game at 12:19 of the third period on an assist from
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./). Neither team was able to break the tie late in regulation or overtime.
Billing made 21 saves while UWRF goaltender Zach Quinn had 34 saves.
The Pointers and Falcons conclude the season series at K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game for donation to the Cupboard.
