Neuberger Scores as Pointers Suffer First Home Loss

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-6-3, 1-3-0) fell behind early and were unable to sustain a comeback in a 5-1 loss to No. 8 UW-River Falls (12-3-1, 3-1-0) on Friday night.

The Falcons scored 4:35 into the first period to put UWSP in an early hole.  UWSP goaltender Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) stopped 13 shots to hold the deficit at one after 20 minutes of play.

UWRF found the back of the net again early in the second period, the first of three tallies for the Falcons in the middle frame. At the 5:31 of the third, the Falcons put their fifth goal up on the board.

Midway through the third period, UWSP got its first power-play chance.  Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) took advantage netting an unassisted goal, her seventh of the year.

Schultz made 32 saves in the game for UWSP.  UWRF goaltender Sami Miller made 15 saves.

The Pointers and Falcons close out the weekend series on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
