DULUTH, Minn. – Despite out-shooting the Saints, 40-17, the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-5-3) were unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss at St. Scholastica (5-6-1) on Saturday.
The Saints scored at the 14:26 mark of the first period on their seventh shot of the game. UWSP was able to kill off a pair of penalties to keep the deficit at one after one.
UWSP put 17 shots on goal in the second and 13 more in the third, but CSS goaltender Lexi Thomeczek was unsolvable as the Pointers fell, 1-0.
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) led the Pointers with six shots on goal.
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) added five and a trio of UWSP players had four each.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 16 saves for the Pointers.
UWSP returns home for a weekend series against UW-River Falls on Friday (Jan. 17) and Saturday (Jan. 18). Puck drop at Ice Hawks Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
