STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (6-2) split matches on the final day of the Pointers Invitational winning in straight sets over Ripon (2-5) and falling in four sets to Bethel (3-2).

UWSP 3, Ripon 0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-8)
The Pointers used a 14-1 run with Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) and Mazie Nagel (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) serving to pull away for an easy first set victory.  The second set wasn't so easy, but a 5-0 run with a kill and an ace by Nagel gave UWSP a late lead.  In the third set, it was a 16-2 run with Emme, Nagel and Peterson serving up five aces as the Pointers rolled to a straight-set win.

UWSP 1, Bethel 3 (19-25, 25-20, 27-29, 22-25)
UWSP jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but a late 5-0 burst by Bethel gave the Royals the lead and the first set.  Gehl had a pair of kills sandwiching two aces by Adams to break a 9-9 tie and the Pointers closed out the set win with the final four points.

The third set was a see-saw affair with neither team leading by more than three points.  Gehl had five kills, including one to give UWSP a 27-26 lead, but the Royals score three-straight to take the set.  Emme had four kills in the fourth set, but after a 22-all tie, the Royals closed the match with the final three points.

UWSP's Emme and Adams were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances over the weekend.
