UWSP Volleyball Wins Twice in Four Sets in Iowa

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (16-4) won a pair of four-set matches against Loras (14-5) and Dubuque (9-8) in Iowa on Saturday.

Senior Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) had a career-high 18 kills in the win over host Dubuque.  Fellow senior recorded a double-double against Loras with 26 kills and 16 digs.

Junior Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) had double-doubles in both wins with 95 assists and 26 digs over the two matches.  Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had double-figure digs in both matches with 33 on the day.

UWSP 3, Loras 1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23)
Adams capped an early 6-0 run with back-to-back aces as UWSP won the first set.  The Duhawks used a late 7-0 run to even the match at a set apiece.

Gehl had a pair of kills and a block late in the third set as the Pointers pulled ahead to take the set.  Late kills by Mazie Nagel (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) and Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) helped the Pointers overcome a couple bursts by Loras to complete the four-set win.

UWSP 3, UD 1 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20, 27-25)
Emme and Gehl combined for 12 kills as UWSP took the first set from the Spartans.  The Pointers' hitting percentage dipped below zero as UD evened the match at 1-1.

Emme had five kills in the third set, including one in a 6-0 run to end the set after a 19-19 tie.  Gehl's eighth and ninth kill of the fourth set broke a 25-25 tie and gave UWSP another four-set victory.

The Pointers travel to Platteville next Saturday (Oct. 5) for a conference match at 7:00 p.m. against the Pioneers.
