CHICAGO, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (2-1) was unable to complete an unbeaten weekend in Chicago with a 3-0 defeat to UT Dallas (2-1) on Saturday at the Chicago Gargoyle Classic.
Junior
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) had her second-straight double-double with 28 assists and 16 digs. Seniors
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) and
Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) led the Pointers with 11 kills each.
Kills by Gehl, Emme and
Jamie Schmitz (Cashton, Wis./Cashton) in a 5-0 run late tied the first set at 22-22, but the Comets scored the final three points to take the set. Three-straight kills by Emme with UTD at set point sparked a 4-0 run to tie the set at 24-all before the Comets closed the set with a 26-24 win. UT Dallas seized the momentum in the third set with a 12-2 run to close the match in three sets.
The Pointers continue the season-opening road trip on Wednesday (Sept. 4) with a 7:00 p.m. match at Lakeland.
