Pointers Rake in Five Titles on Day Two of WIAC Championships

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams grabbed five event titles on the final day of the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (presented by Culver's).  The UWSP women finished in third with a score of 125.  The men finished in sixth with a score of 94, just half a point back of fifth.

Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca), Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot), Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) won the 4x400-meter relay.  The quartet timed in at 3:56.27, a narrow 0.02 second margin in the victory.
 
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) won the discus throw with a distance of 49.99 meters (164' 0"), a UW-Platteville facility record.
 
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) won the high jump with a height of 1.67 meters (5' 5.75").  She also took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.67, 0.02 seconds behind the winner.
 
Momont earned a runner-up finish in the heptathlon with a score of 4,579.  In second day action, she placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.39 meters (17' 8.25").  She placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.42 meters (99' 10").
 
Mertens placed second in the 200-meter dash.  She finished with a time of 25.38.
 
The duo of Petkovsek and Wellhausen placed second and eighth in the 800-meter run.  The pair finished with times of 2:15.69 and 2:18.40.
 
Kasy Walker-Daniels (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.19 meters (36' 8.50").
 
Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) and Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) earned seventh- and ninth-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles.  The pair clocked in times of 1:05.65 and 1:10.26.
 
For the men, Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.30, a 0.29 second margin of victory.
 
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) won the triple jump at a distance of 15.15 meters (49' 8.50").
 
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) placed second in the 5,000-meter run.  He earned a time of 15:00.63. 
 
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.73.
 
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) placed fourth in the decathlon with a score of 6,445.  In the process, he earned a runner-up position in the high jump at 1.88 meters (6' 2.00").  He also earned a runner-up in the pole vault at the height of 4.37 meters (14' 4.00").
 
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) placed eighth in the discus throw with a distance of 45.19 meters (148' 3").
 
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) placed ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.27.  Also, he placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.96.
 
Nico Labracke (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) earned a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.21.
 
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:56.70. 
 
Next up, the Pointers cross the border for Dr. Keeler Invite on Friday (May 10) in Naperville, Ill.
