LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens point track and field teams were in La Crosse for the NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday making final attempts at NCAA qualifying marks.
Results
Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.04, a 1.27 second margin of victory over the runner-up. Her time was a PR by more than a second in the event.
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) finished in the runner-up slot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.33 seconds.
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds. She earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.45 meters (17' 10.75"). She also finished third in the high jump at 1.63 meters (5' 4.25").
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) tied for fifth with a high jump of 1.58 meters (5' 2.25").
Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire, Wis./North) placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 52.79 meters (173' 2").
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) took second in the shot put with a distance of 13.98 meters (45' 10.5"). Hoepner came in fifth at 13.45 meters (44' 1.5"). Hoepner, Wethal and
Brilyn Brecka (Alma, Wis./Alma) finished third, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the discus throw with throws of 44.72 meters (146' 9"), 42.31 meters (138' 9") and 42.02 meters (137' 10").
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and
Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) finished seventh and eighth in the 800-meter run with times of 2:19.48 and 2:22.51, respectively.
Mertens and Wellhausen teamed with
Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) and
Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) to place eighth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:57.95.
On the men's side,
Axel Treinen (Wausau, Wis./East) finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:19.11, just 0.09 off his PR and a 2.32 second margin of victory.
Bret Hilliard (Morton. Ill./Morton) and
Robert Lutz (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) came in fifth and seventh with times of 9:35.08 and 9:50.30.
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) triple jumped a distance of 14.66 meters (48' 1.25"), a second-place finish by 0.17 meters.
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) was edged out by just 0.001 seconds in the 200-meter dash with a runner-up time of 21.715.
Wojt ran with
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa),
Matt Cieslak (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot) and
Jayden Jesse (Genoa City, Wis./Wilmot) in the 4x400-meter relay and finished third with a time of 3:13.00, just 0.34 seconds behind the event winners.
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) finished the 110-meter hurdles in fourth place with a time of 15.09 seconds, just 0.02 behind the third-place finisher.
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) and
Josh Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) placed sixth and eighth in the 1,500-meter run with times of 3:57.39 and 4:03.77, respectively.
Nico Labracke (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) clocked in at 1:53.81 in the 400-meter dash, good for seventh place.
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) earned a seventh-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 46.74 meters (153' 4").
Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) ran a 11.02 second 100-meter dash, a 10th-place finish despite just a 0.39 seconds behind the event winner.
Logan Garski (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) led a quartet of Pointers in the hammer throw with a 10th-place finish and a distance of 52.43 meters (172' 0").
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin next Thursday (May 23) in Geneva, Ohio. The full list of NCAA meet participants will be posted on ncaa.com on Saturday (May 18).
