Pointers Make Final Tune-Ups for WIAC Championships

It was an action-packed Saturday as the UW-Stevens Point track and field teams split squads in two meets in two states.  One unit was at the Drake Relays, while another squad traveled to De Pere, Wis. for the St. Norbert College Invite. The men won at SNC with a score of 272, while the women placed third with a score of 172.5. 
 
Drake Relays - Results
 
The quartet of Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca), Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville), Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and Georgia Harrison (West Bend, Wis./East) placed fifth in the distance medley relay.  The ensemble timed in at 12:44.50. 
 
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) earned a four-way tie for ninth in the high jump.  She cleared the bar at the height of 1.61 meters (5' 3.25").
 
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas), Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa), Nico Labracke (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) earned a fifth-place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:14.33. 
 
St. Norbert College Invite - Results
 
Axel Treinen (Wausau, Wis./East) and Josh Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) won the top-two spots of the 800-meter run, respectively.  The pair earned times of 1:58.32 and 1:59.48. 
 
Robert Lutz (Greendale, Wis./Greendale), Bret Hilliard (Morton. Ill./Morton) and Bryce Richards (Mundelein,Wis./Mundelein) went one-two-three in the 1,500-meter run, respectively, with times of 4:02.10, 4:04.52 and 4:10.77. 
 
Abraham Skwira (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:32.96. 
 
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) won a series of events in the throws.  He first won the shot put with a distance of 15.16 meters.  He then won the hammer throw with a distance of 54.73 meters. 
 
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) took first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.04.
 
Adam Laehn (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) earned the runner-up position of the long jump with a distance of 5.83 meters. 
 
Colin Beattie (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) and Jeremy Husnick (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) went three-four in the pole vault.  The pair cleared the bar at the height of 3.90 and 3.75 meters, respectively.
 
Matthew Miller (Hillsboro, Wis./Kickapoo) and Dustin Knoeck (Marathon, Wis./Marawood South) earned fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles.  The pair hurdled to times of 16.60 and 16.80. 
 
For the women, Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire, Wis./North) won the shot put with a distance of 12.79 meters.  She also captured a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.35 meters. 
 
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) won the javelin throw with a launch of 37.91 meters. 
 
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) won the discus crown with a distance of 43.85 meters. 
 
Hurdlers Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) and Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) won the 100- and 400- meter hurdles crowns. They finished with a time of 15.10 and 1:07.11, respectively.  Simonis also placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.33 meters. 
 
Makenzie Ward (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters. 
 
Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard) placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:08.38. 
 
Brianna Bralich (West Bend,Wis./West) earned the runner-up position in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:23.16. Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) followed up later in fourth with a time of 2:25.33. 
 
The Pointers travel to Platteville, Wis. for the WIAC Outdoor Championships (presented by Culver's) hosted by UW-Platteville.  The two-day meet will be Friday (May 3) and Saturday (May 4).
