OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (14-16, 6-10) suffered a pair of one-run losses to UW-Oshkosh (17-16, 10-10) in league play on Wednesday. The Pointers lost by scores of 7-6 and 3-2, respectively.
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) had three hits on the day, including his third home run of the season. He drove in three runs and scored twice on the day.
Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added four hits on the day with two RBI and two runs scored in game one. Simmons has hit safely in 26 of the Pointers' 30 games this season.
Will Iloncaie (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) had four hits and scored a run.
Nate Jackan (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) added three hits and run.
Game 1 – UWSP 6, UWO 7
Simmons doubled with one out in the first and Nelson followed with a double to put the first run on the board.
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) singled to extend the UWSP lead to 2-0.
Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis./Union Grove) was hit by a pitch to start the second. Jackan singled and a fielder's choice left two on base.
Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) drew a walk to load the bases. Simmons singled to double the UWSP lead to 4-0.
In the third, Iloncaie singled with one out. A hit by pitch and single by Hansen gave the Pointers a 5-0 advantage.
The Titans scored twice on a pair of hits in the third to cut the UWSP lead to 5-2. A three-run home run in the fourth by UWO tied the game at 5-5.
The first batter of the sixth homered for the Titans, but UWSP got the run back in the seventh. Consecutive doubles by Simmons and Nelson knotted the game at 6-6.
A leadoff triple in the eighth came home on a one-out single as the Titans took the lead for good.
Game 2 – UWSP 2, UWO 3
UWSP opened the scoring in game two as Comer reached on an error with one out in the second. A single by
Weston Nelson (Sheboygan, Wis./North) plated Comer for a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth,

Four hits by the Titans in the bottom of the sixth scored three runs as UWO took the lead. UWSP had runners on in the seventh and the eighth, but were unable to find an equalizing run.
Matthew Morgan (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) made his first career start for the Pointers and lasted 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Mack Blashka (Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) tossed the final 2.2 and did not allow a hit.
The Pointers return to action this weekend with a conference series against UW-Stout. Games are currently scheduled for Saturday (April 27) and Sunday (April 28) at 12:00 p.m. both days in Menomonie.
