LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (15-18-1, 1-8-1) got a pair of hits from
Rachael Wakefield (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) in each game, but homestanding UW-La Crosse () swept a doubleheader from the Pointers. UWSP fell by an 8-0 score in six innings in game one. The Pointers led early, but dropped game two by a 7-4 final.
Wakefield registered two hits in both games, her third-straight multi-hit game.
Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) had four hits on the day as well. She had three hits, an RBI and scored twice in game two.
Game 1 – UWSP 0, UWL 8 (6)
The Pointers had a hit in each of the first four innings, but the runner was stranded in each frame.
The Eagles used four hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. A solo home run in the fifth gave UWL a 3-0 advantage.
In the sixth, Wakefield led off with a single. Consecutive UWL errors loaded the bases, but UWSP was unable to push home a run.
The Eagles batted around in the bottom of the sixth and walked off with the 8-0 victory.
Game 2 – UWSP 4, UWL 7
Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East) led off the game with a single. Luedtke followed with a double to put two in scoring position. Two batters later,
Sammy Buerger (Oshkosh, Wis./North) singled to plate the first run. An RBI fielder's choice by
Morgan Johnson (Combined Locks, Wis./Kaukauna) gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles scored single runs in the first, second and fourth to overtake the lead, 3-2.
Luedtke was hit by a pitch to begin the fifth. A UWL error put two on and a sac bunt by
Ashley Cohen (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard South) moved both runners into scoring position. An RBI groundout by Johnson tied the game at 3-3.
UWL scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on two hits to regain the lead at 5-3.
In the sixth,
Sophie Lee (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) hit a one-out single. Wakefield followed with an infield hit and two batters later, Luedtke drove in a run with a base hit.
The Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on four hits to complete the scoring.
The Pointers return home on Wednesday (April 24) for the home finale against UW-Oshkosh. It will be Senior Day at McCarty Memorial Field. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
