Pointers Wrap Up Competition at the Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams completed the two-day competition at the Phil Esten Challenge hosted by UW-La Crosse on Friday.  The men finished in third out of 19 teams.  The women finished in fifth in the 21-team field.
 
Results
 
For the men, Axel Treinen (Wausau, Wis./East) and Bret Hilliard (Morton. Ill./Morton) won the top two spots of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively.  The pair finished with times of 9:25.48 and 9:27.44. 
 
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) earned the runner-up place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.76.
 
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.32 meters (46' 11.75").  In the long jump, he finished sixth with a distance of 6.70 meters (21' 11.75").
 
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Omena Onomakpome (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) earned the runner-up and third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.  The pair finished with times of 15.06 and 15.07, respectively. 
 
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa), Matt Cieslak (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot), Jayden Jesse (Genoa City, Wis./Wilmot) and Wojt finished in second place in the 4x400-meter relay.  The quartet timed in at 3:17.61.
 
Lee Jepsen (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) sprinted to a time of 10.86 in the 100-meter dash, good for a fourth-place finish. 
 
Freshman Jake Odrzywolski (Wauwatosa,Wis./Nicolet) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:15.94. 
 
Tylar Kohnke (North Fond du Lac, Wis./Horace Mann) placed sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.18 meters (144' 11").
 
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) and Matt Cieslak (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot) went six-seven in the 400-meter dash with times of 49.79 and 50.25, respectively.
 
Caleb Rheinschmidt (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa), Alex Poncelet (Hastings, Minn./Hastings), Isaiah Yaroch and Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) rounded out the top-10 with seventh-, eighth-, ninth- and 10-place finishes in the hammer throw.  The quartet threw distances of 51.81 (169' 11"), 49.62 (162' 9"), 49.19 (161' 4") and 46.48 meters (152' 6").
 
Quinn Brownell (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) hurdled his way to a time of 59.42 in the 400-meter hurdles, good for a ninth-place finish. 
 
Nick Lawson (Madison, Wis./West) and Nico LaBracke went 11-12 in the 800-meter run.  They earned times of 1:56.78 and 1:57.04. 
 
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) finished the heptathlon with a score of 4,508, good for a second-place finish.  She earned a runner-up finish the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters (17' 5.25").  Later, she placed fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.59 meters (100' 4").
 
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) went two-three in the 800-meter dash. The pair finished with times of 2:18.39 and 2:18.65, respectively. 
 
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, Wis./Hartford Union) tabbed a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.12.
 
Wellhausen and Mertens teamed up with Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) and Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot) for the 4x400-meter relay.  The pair finished in third with a time of 3:59.01.
 
Sam Carriveau (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) placed sixth in the triple jump.  Her distance was 10.97 meters (36' 0").
 
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) returned for day two action in the shot put.  She placed sixth with a distance of 13.16 meters (43' 2.25").
 
The 4x100-meter quartet of Shannon Nelson (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek), Carriveau, Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and Mertens placed seventh in the relay.  The ensemble timed in at 49.57, which also set a new top mark for the season. 
 
Falk and Elle Maculan (Rockford, Ill./Auburn) rounded out the top-10 in the 400-meter hurdles.  The pair finished in seventh and 10th place with times of 1:06.53 and 1:07.10, respectively. 
 
Makenzie Ward (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) placed eighth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.58 meters (5' 2.25").
 
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) rounded out the top-10 in 10th in the pole vault.  She cleared the bar at a height of 3.26 meters (10' 8.25").
 
Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard) placed 13th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:41.24.
 
Up next, the Pointers split squads for two different meets.  Part of the team is going to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays on Friday (April 26) and Saturday (April 27).  Another squad is going to De Pere, Wis. for the St. Norbert College Invite on Saturday (April 27).
