AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-3) fell behind early and were unable to rally back in a 7-4 loss to Anderson (8-5).
Sophomore
Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) continued his red-hot start to the season with three hits in the game. He drove in a run and scored once.
Senior
Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) drew a pair of walks and scored twice.
Bradley Hansen (Racine, Wis./Union Grove) and
Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) each had a pair of hits in the game.
The Ravens turned three hits and walk into three runs in the bottom of the first. Anderson added a run in the second as UWSP trailed 4-0.
Duddleston began the Pointers' third with a single to right. After a caught stealing, Mrozinski drew a walk. Simmons singled and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. An RBI groundout by
Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) got UWSP on the board.
In the fifth, it was Duddleston again sparking a rally with a leadoff single. Mrozinski walked again and Simmons drove in a run. Consecutive walks to
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) and Stanicek loaded the bases. Two batters later,
Nolan Matson (Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville) drew a walk, but UWSP stranded the bases loaded and were down, 4-3.
The Ravens turned a UWSP error into two runs on a pair of doubles in the fifth. In the sixth, Anderson added a single tally on two hits.
Simmons led off the seventh with a single and Nelson doubled to put two in scoring position with no outs. A walk to
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) loaded the bases and Matson drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
UWSP had a runner on in both the eighth and the ninth, but couldn't push in a run in either frame.
Alex Stodola (Coleman, Wis./Coleman) started and struck out five in 4.1 innings.
Tristan Brewer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) tossed 1.2 and got a strikeout.
Mitchel Neubauer (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) pitched the final 2.0 and recorded three strikeouts.
The Pointers wrap up the Florida trip on Friday (March 22) against St. Olaf. First pitch is set for 9:00 a.m. CT.
