Baseball Blanked by Endicott to Close First Half of Florida Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (3-2) mustered just five hits in a 10-0 defeat to Endicott (3-2) on Sunday to wrap up the first half of the Florida spring trip.

Sophomore Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) extended his season-opening hitting streak to five games with a double in the fourth inning.

Fellow sophomore Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) had a hit and drew a walk in the game.

Senior Will Iloncaie (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) made his UWSP pitching debut and tossed the first 5.0 innings.  He struck out three and allowed just four hits.

The Gulls got on the board in the top of the fourth after a two-out walk, a stolen base and a single plated a run.  Simmons started the bottom of the frame with a double, but was cut down at third attempting to stretch it to a triple.

Endicott put up a four-spot in the fifth.  The Gulls scored twice more in the sixth and again in the eighth.  A ninth-inning run capped the scoring in the 10-0 loss.

The Pointers return to action on Tuesday (March 19) against Farmingdale State College.  First pitch is slated for 10:30 a.m. CT.
