WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point track and field women's team placed third and the men placed fifth among the 10 teams at the Midwest Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater.
Results
Karen Wethal (Evansville, Wis./Evansville) represented the Pointer women well winning the shot put throw. She won the event with a distance of 13.53 meters (44' 4.75"). She also placed fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 15.67 meters (51' 5.00").
Brooke Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis./Big Foot) and
Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) claimed first- and second-place finishes for the second-straight week in the 800-meter run. The pair earned times of 2:18.82 and 2:19.59.
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) and
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) tied to win the high jump. The pair cleared the bar at heights of 1.60 meters (5' 3.00").
Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) earned a second-place finish in the long jump. She soared to a distance of 5.59 meters (18' 4.25"). She also earned a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91.
Petkovsek and Wellhausen ran the last two legs, respectively, in the 4x400-meter relay with
Caitlin Falk (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) and
Rebecca Alter (Trevor, Wis./Wilmot). The quartet finished in a time of 4:03.95, good for a third-place finish.
Falk and Alter earned a fifth- and seventh-place finishes in the 400-meter dash. The pair earned times of 59.63 and 1:01.27, respectively.
Momont also earned a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time 9.43.
Georgia Harrison (West Bend, Wis./East) finished in seventh place in the one-mile run. She ran a time of 5:15.83.
Shannon Nelson (Franklin, Wis./Oak Creek) earned a top-10 finish with an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.23.
Katie Schaefer (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard) represented the Pointers in the 3,000-meter run as the only UWSP athlete. She finished in ninth place with a time of 10:58.49.
Taylor Campbell (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) led a charge of Pointers who finished mid-pack in the 5,000-meter run. Campbell finished in 21st with a time of 19:47.55. Teammates
Ellen Peterson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) and
Amanda Cieslinski (West Allis, Wis./Central) followed in the 22nd and 23rd places, respectively, with times of 19:47.98 and 19:57.15.
For the men,
Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.94.
Tom Kohn (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) earned a third-place finish in the triple jump. He soared to a distance of 13.85 meters (45' 5.25").
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) placed third in the shot put with a throw of 14.90 meters (48' 10.75").
Wojt opened the 4x400-meter with
Travis Wollenberg (Navarivo, Wis./Bonduel),
Sam Welch (Manawa, Wis./Manawa) and
Evan Torgerson (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest). The quartet finished in fourth with a time of 3:23.64.
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) and
Robert Lutz (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) finished four-five in the one-mile run. The distance pair earned times of 4:19.60 and 4:20.48.
Preston Mertins (Dorchester, Wis/Colby) finished in fifth place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:49.05.
Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) hurdled his way to a fifth-place finish with a time of 8.48 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) finished in the top-10 in the 5,000-meter run. He earned a time of 14:54.25, good for a sixth-place finish.
Nico LaBracke and
Travis Wollenberg (Navarivo, Wis./Bonduel) went six-seven in the 800-meter run. The mid-distance pair finished with times of 1:56.56 and 1:56.68.
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) soared to a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.62 meters (21' 8.75"). He also earned a 13th-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.75 meters (5' 8.75").
Torgerson finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.78.
Alex Jochman (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) rounded out a top-10 finish of 10th-place in the pole vault clearing the bar at a height of 4.23 meters (13'10.50").
Up next, the Pointers have a pair of competitions next weekend. UWSP heads to Naperville, Ill., for the F. Lee Slick Invitational on Friday (Feb. 15) at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday (Feb. 16), the Pointers compete in the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge beginning at 9:30 a.m.
