EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-14-4) gave up three goals int eh first period and fell to No. 8/9 UW-Eau Claire (19-5-2) by a 5-1 score in game one of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) semifinal.
The Blugolds got the scoring going at the 2:57 mark of the first. UWEC added two more in the period for a 3-0 advantage.
Late in the second period, freshman
Nicole Neuberger (Orono, Minn./Orono) tallied a power-play goal, her fourth goal of the season, to get UWSP on the board.
Sophie Regovic (Naperville, Ill./Chicago Mission) and
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) assisted on the goal.
In the third period, UWEC put the game out of reach with a pair of goals.
Senior goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) made 48 saves for the Pointers. Erin Connolly turned away 15 UWSP shots.
The teams faceoff again on Saturday (Feb. 23) in the second game of the semifinals. Puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Eau Claire.
