EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Senior
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) tied her own school record for single-game saves with 55, but the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-15-4) dropped game two of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) semifinals, 4-1, to UW-Eau Claire (20-5-2).
Conley's 55 saves broke the WIAC Championship record set by Paige Turner of UW-Eau Claire in 2015. It also tied Conley's own school record set against UW-River Falls in 2018.
Fellow senior
Lauren Smith (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the first period.
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) was credited with an assist on the goal at the 5:40 mark.
The Pointers' 1-0 lead lasted until the 3:16 mark of the second period. The Blugolds scored three times in the second period to put UWSP behind 3-1 heading to the fourth.
Late in the third period, UWEC iced the game with an empty-net goal. UWEC goaltender Erin Connolly made 13 saves in the win.
Conley concludes her career at UWSP with 2,193 saves, just 22 shy of the career school record. Fellow senior
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Madison Capitols) tied for the career mark with 20 power-play goals. Lemirande also finished tied for second with 15 career game-winning goals.
