Pointers Shut Out UWRF in WIAC Semifinal Game One

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 1-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (24-0-2) blanked UW-River Falls (12-10-5), 6-0, in game one of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) Semifinals on Friday at K.B. Willett Arena.

The Pointer got goals from five different skaters and scored in each period, including two power-play goals for their second shutout of the season.

Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill.) started the scoring just 1:54 into the game. He was assisted by Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill.).

Raver recorded his second goal of the night at 10:20 of the first period. Drew McLean (Waterford, Mich.) and Danny Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz.) picked up assists on the play.

Quagliata increased the lead to 3-0, 3:27 into the second. He scored his third power-play goal in as many games.

Just 21 seconds later, Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) made it 4-0 with Fredericks and Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis.) getting the assists.

Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) put home the second power-play goal of the night at 15:34 of the second. McLean and McElhenie each tallied their second helpers of the night.

Ryan Bittner (Crookston, Minn.) added a late goal with 2:19 remaining in the game to finish the scoring, 6-0. Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich.) had the assists.

Sophomore goaltender, Connor Ryckman (Minesing, Ont.), earned the win, improving to 21-0-1 on the season. He made 20 saves in the game. Falcons' keeper Zach Quinn was pulled three minutes into the second period after giving up four goals. He made 13 saves. Quinn was replaced by Joe Marcoullier, who allowed two more goals and made 18 saves in the game.

The Pointers face UW-River Falls in game two of the WIAC Semifinals on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
