EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-13-2, 1-6-1) were unable to salvage a game in the series in a 9-1 loss at No. 9/10 UW-Eau Claire (17-4-2, 6-1-1) on Saturday.
The Blugolds came out on a mission with five first-period goals to put the Pointers in a deep early hole.
The lead grew in the second period as UWEC tacked on three more goals.
In the third period, freshman
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) scored her first career goal at the 6:40 mark to get UWSP on the board.
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) picked up an assist on the goal.
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) and
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) split time in net, combining for 27 saves. UWEC goaltender Erin Connolly stopped 19 UWSP shots.
The Pointers return to action on Feb. 12 at Concordia (Wis.) for the final non-conference game of the year. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
