RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Sophomore
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) scored with 25 seconds remaining to break a 60-60 tie and lift the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (8-13, 4-6) to a 63-60 road win at UW-River Falls (7-14, 1-9) on Saturday.
Freshman
Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis. /Tri-County) scored a game-high 20 points for UWSP to lead a trio in double figures. She went 9-for-15 from the field and had seven rebounds.
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) added 13 points and made three three-pointers in the win. Collins pitched in 10 points and had eight boards.
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) contributed nine points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor.
Baehman and
Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) combined for 10 early points as the Pointers jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Greenheck got on the board and UWSP led by a 17-10 score after one.
Geier and
Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) scored early in the second quarter as the lead went back to 10.
Erin Nyhus (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) and Greenheck each hit a three-pointer later in the quarter as UWSP led 28-21 at the half.
Collins scored the first four UWSP points in the third, but UWRF forged to a 33-32 lead midway through the quarter. The Pointers responded with an 11-0 run, Baehman scoring seven in the spurt. The back-and-forth saw the Falcons close the quarter on a 9-0 run and UWSP led 43-42 heading to the fourth.
Cerrato nailed a three early in the fourth, but UWRF closed the gap to a 48-all tie at the 6:44 mark. With 2:49 remaining, Baehman drilled a three-pointer for a 57-55 UWSP edge. Cerrato followed suit with a triple of her own for a 60-59 lead with 1:39 to go. Tied at 60-60, Collins scored with 25 seconds left and a late game-tying three by UWRF was no good.
The Pointers return home for a pair of league games next week. UWSP will face UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 7:00 p.m. to begin the two-game home stand.
