BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Sophomore
Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) had a season-high 22 points, but the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-4) came up short in a 73-61 loss at Illinois Wesleyan (8-2) on Monday.
Baehman scored 15 of her 22 in the second half and led all players in scoring. She also grabbed eight boards, dished out four assists and had two steals.
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) was also in double figures for the Pointers with 11 points. She also had eight rebounds in the game.
Collins got the Pointers on the board after UWSP fell behind 6-0. Back-to-back buckets by Baehman pulled UWSP even at 14-14 and, with 1:36 left in the first,
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) hit a three to put the Pointers ahead by one.
Collins scored seven points in the second quarter, but the Titans out-scored UWSP 22-10 in the period to pull away to a 41-27 halftime lead.
Baehman scored seven points of her own in the third quarter and UWSP cut the lead to 10 after an and-one with 3:14 left. IWU scored the final five points to push the deficit back to 15 entering the fourth.
The fourth quarter began with Baehman nailing a three-pointer. She hit again from behind the arc with just over four minutes to go, but the Titan held a double-digit lead to the buzzer.
The Pointers return home for a Friday (Dec. 13) night matchup with Ripon. Tip-off in Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
