STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (6-3-1, 1-2-0) scored twice in the second period and two more times in the third to defeat Northland (2-8-0, 0-4-0) in the final game of 2019.
Freshman
Ashtyn Wiltscheck (Sleepy Eye, Minn./New Ulm) broke a scoreless tie at 9:07 of the second period.
Anna Cheney (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) and
Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) assisted on the goal.
Late in the second period, Northland tied the game on the power play.
Just 14 seconds later,
Alex Grubbs (Minong, Wis./Spooner) put the Pointers in front for good.
Cassie Knutson (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) added a helper on the eventual game-winning goal at 18:52 of the second.
In the third,
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) scored an unassisted tally to push the lead to 3-1 at 6:59. Eighty seconds later, Neuberger scored her team-leading sixth of the season with Wiltscheck adding the assist.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 13 saves to earn the win. Northland goaltender Gabby Suhr had 32 saves.
The Pointers return to action on Jan. 4 with a 7:00 p.m. game at Saint Mary's in Winona, Minn.
