Men’s Basketball Improves to 6-0, Knocks Off Hope at Home

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (6-0) remained perfect on the season with a 74-65 win over Hope College (4-3) on Saturday at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Senior Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led all players with 19 points, one of three Pointers in double figures.  Fellow senior Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) poured in a career-high 16 points.

Bublitz got UWSP on the board in the opening minute and three-pointers by Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie), Ehrke and Peter Timmerman (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) put the Pointers in front 15-6.  After a four-minute drought that saw Hope get within two, Bublitz scored five-straight for UWSP and a 20-18 edge.

Koerner nailed a three and buried a pair of free throws to break a 29-29 tie.  Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) drilled a three and Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) extended the lead to 36-29 at the half.

Bublitz drained a pair of threes as he scored eight the Pointers' first 10 points in the second half.  Late in the game, Koerner hit twice from behind the arc to extend the lead to double figures.

The Pointers face Bethel at home on Wednesday (Dec. 11).  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and it is "Fill the Humvee" night in which fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate.
