Baehman, Collins Register Double-Doubles in Pointers Victory

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) and Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) each recorded double-doubles as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (5-6) won its non-conference finale by an 82-79 final over Saint Mary's (1-8) on Monday.

Baehman led the Pointers with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  Collins added 17 points and 11 boards.  Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) also contributed double-digit points with 18 and 13, respectively.  Greenheck's 18 were a career-best.

Baehman drilled a pair of threes to help UWSP to a 10-2 advantage out of the gate.  Baehman scored again with 4:28 left in the quarter for a 16-7 lead, but SMU closed on an 8-0 run to cut the Pointers' lead to 16-15 after one.

Collins and Schmidt combined for nine early points in the second quarter, but the game was knotted at 25-25 three minutes in.  UWSP hit four three-pointers and closed the first half on a 20-6 run for a 45-34 halftime lead.

Collins hit a pair of early buckets as UWSP maintained a double-digit lead.  Collins added four more points in an 8-1 run midway through the third that pushed the lead to 18.

The fourth quarter began with Baehman hitting a jumper for a 14-point lead.  A trio of three-pointers sparked a comeback by the Cardinals and a fourth triple gave SMU a 79-78 edge with 15 seconds left.  Greenheck was fouled on a drive with seven seconds left and hit four-straight free throws and UWSP forced a pair of turnovers to seal the win.

UWSP opens league play at home on Saturday (Jan. 4) against UW-River Falls.  Tip-off in Berg Gym is set for 3:00 p.m. and it will be Youth Day with all youth eighth grade and younger admitted free with a paid adult.
