Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pointers Stunned at Buzzer by Comets’ Big Comeback

RICHARDSON, Texas – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (7-3) went the final 6:30 of the game without scoring and host UT Dallas (6-3) scored the game-winner with 1.0 seconds left to cap a 14-0 run, claiming a 61-60 win over the Pointers.

Senior Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) again carried the Pointers with a game-high 20 points.  He also pulled down a game-high tying eight boards.

Fellow seniors Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) were also in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Spray scored the first six UWSP points and his eighth point of the game gave the Pointers a 13-12 edge.  Later in the first half, a pair of threes by Koerner and another by Spray gave UWSP a 32-28 advantage at the half.

Near the middle of the second half, UWSP built an 18-point lead after a 16-3 run with Bublitz scoring all 16 in the run giving the Pointers a 58-40 lead with 8:19 remaining.  After seven-straight points by UTD, Bublitz made a pair of free throws with 6:30 left.  The Pointers would not score again in the game going 0-for-7 while the Comets went 4-for-6 from the field to complete the comeback.

UWSP closes out non-conference play on Sunday (Dec. 29) against East Texas Baptist at 4:00 p.m.
