Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bublitz Wins Non-Conference Finale with Jumper in Final Second

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) hit a jump shot with 0.9 seconds remaining as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (8-3) finished the non-conference slate with a 62-60 win over East Texas Baptist University (7-2) on Sunday.

Bublitz again led all players in scoring with 20 points.  He pulled down eight rebounds, tying fellow senior Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) for the game-high.

Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) and Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) were also in double figures for the Pointers with 14 and 10 points, respectively.  Spray also racked up a career-high three blocked shots.

Bublitz and Koerner nailed consecutive three-pointers as UWSP opened the game on a 10-0 run.  Koerner hit again from behind the arc to stop an 8-0 run by the Tigers.  Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) and Koerner drilled threes as the lead grew to seven with each make.  Late in the half, Bublitz completed a pair of and-ones and the Pointers led 36-31 midway through.

Koerner and Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) each put through three-pointers as UWSP open the second half on a 10-3 run to push the lead to 13.  Spray drained a jumper with 8:18 remaining to give UWSP a 56-45 advantage.  But for the second-straight day, the remaining offense for the Pointers was provided by Bublitz as ETBU worked a 15-4 run into a 60-60 tie with 2:20 to go.  Bublitz broke the tie on a jumper with 0.9 seconds left to give UWSP the win.

The Pointers open league play on Saturday (Jan. 4) at UW-River Falls.  Tip-off at Don Page Arena is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
