STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (4-5) won its home non-conference finale on Friday over visiting St. Norbert (1-8) by a final of 64-58. UWSP turned a one-point deficit entering the fourth quarter around for the win.
Sophomore
Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) led all scorers with 15 points. Junior
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) added 13 point and had a team-high nine rebounds. Fellow junior
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) rounded out the trio of Pointers in double figures with 11 points.
Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) and Collins combined for UWSP's first seven points as the Pointers opened up a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) added a late bucket as the lead was 17-11 after one.
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) nailed a three-pointer early in the second and Schmidt added a bucket with 6:15 left in the half for a 24-15 advantage.
Erin Moran (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) ended a five-minute drought from the field with a jumper and Greenheck buried a triple to knot the game at 31-31. A late three-pointer gave the Green Knights a 34-31 lead at the half.
Greenheck got UWSP on the board more than three minutes into the third quarter as UWSP started to dig out of a nine-point hole. Pfeifer completed an and-one later in the quarter and UWSP was within 44-43 heading to the fourth.
Collins completed an and-one early in the fourth as the teams traded baskets through the middle of the quarter. Cerrato drained a three with 3:53 left to spark a 9-0 run as the Pointers jumped ahead 62-52 to take control of the game.
The Pointers wrap up non-conference play in Wisconsin Dells on Dec. 29 and 30 with 3:00 p.m. games against St. Thomas and Saint Mary's, respectively.
