PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (3-6, 2-4) hung with UW-Platteville (7-2, 4-2) until the fourth quarter, but fell in the final road game of the season, 41-14.
Senior wide receiver
Jonte Webb (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) caught a pair of touchdown passes from fellow senior
Matt Urmanski (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) to account for the UWSP scoring. He hauled in nine passes for 85 yards, both team highs. Urmanski completed 20 passes on the day for 195 yards.
ShamaJ Williams (Racine, Wis./Lutheran) led the UWSP rushing attack with 91 yards on 19 carries, tied for his season-high in attempts and second most yards in a game this season.
Nevada Laabs (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) led the UWSP defense with eight tackles, four solos and one for loss.
Jashawn Witt (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) had a sack for UWSP.
It took the Pioneers just three play, culminating with a 72-yard pass, to take a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, it was another big pass play, this time 68 yards, as UWP took a 14-0 lead.
Just before the half, the Pointers put together a six-play, 75-yard drive to get on the board. Three completions by Urmanski, including the nine-yard TD strike to Webb, powered the drive.
The Pioneers turned an early turnover into a touchdown drive early in the third. Six plays after a UWSP fumble, UWP took a 21-7 lead.
On the ensuing drive, Urmanski completed five passes capped by a five-yard touchdown strike to Webb as UWSP closed to within 21-14.
UWP punched in the first play of the fourth quarter and scored on the next two offensive drives to put the game away.
The Pointers close out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 16) at Goerke Park with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against UW-La Crosse.
