STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (4-4-1) rallied from a two-goal deficit, but visiting Marian (5-3-1) netted a third period goal to take a 4-3 game on Friday.
UWSP took the lead just 3:33 into the game as
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) scored his team-leading eighth of the year.
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) set up the early goal.
The Sabres tied the game late in the first. In the opening minute of the second period, MU scored on the power play to take a 2-1 lead. The Sabres pushed the deficit to 3-1 at the 4:25 mark of the second.
Austin Kelly (Toledo, Ohio/) started the UWSP comeback with his fourth goal of the season.
Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./) and
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) had assists on the goal.
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) fired a wrist shot into the net at 17:25 of the second to tie the game.
Danny Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz./) and Quagliata assisted on the game-tying tally.
In the third period, the Sabres pulled ahead at the 12:48 mark. UWSP was unable to find an equalizer late.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made 18 saves for the Pointers. Hunter Vorva stopped 22 Pointers' shots for the win.
