KENOSHA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-3) got off the a slow start and host Carthage (3-3) downed the Pointers, 73-47, in non-conference action on Tuesday.
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) led the Pointers in scoring with nine points. Freshman
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) pulled down 12 boards and had three blocks, both game-highs.
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) hit a three a minute and a half into the game, but by the time
Erin Moran (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made the next three-pointer, the Pointers were down 17-3.
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) completed an and-one as the Pointers closed to within 10 at 21-11 after one.
Greenheck nailed a three and
Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) scored as UWSP got the deficit to single digits until late the second quarter. Back-to-back three by the Lady Reds in the final 30 seconds pushed the lead to 14 at the half.
Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) hit a three in the third quarter, but a 14-5 run by Carthage pushed the deficit to 20 for most of the third. The Lady Reds hit five more three-pointers in the fourth to close out the game.
UWSP will wrap up the three-game road trip at Illinois Wesleyan on Dec. 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
