Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pointers Ride Big First Half to 31st-Consecutive Win over UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Stevens point men's basketball team (3-0) shot 64.3 percent from the field in the first half and rolled to its 31st-straight win over UW-Superior (2-4) on Tuesday, 69-53.

Senior Ethan Bublitz (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored a game-high 17 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for the Pointers.  Fellow seniors Aaron Knez (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) and Matt Koerner (West Bend, Wis./West) added 12 points apiece.

Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) led UWSP with nine rebounds and had team-bests of five assists and three steals.

Ehrke, Koerner and Bublitz hit four-straight three-pointers and UWSP was up 20-4 just over six minutes into the game.  Koerner drained another three and the lead ballooned to 20 less than 10 minutes in.  Knez nailed a triple late in the half and the lead was 46-22 at the break.

Ehrke hit a pair of buckets and Koerner buried another three as the Pointers maintained a 20-point cushion.  Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) hit from behind the arc with 7:00 to go as the Pointers offense cooled off in the second half, but the game was well out of hand.

The Pointers head east for the Christopher Newport Invitational this weekend.  UWSP will play Wilmington on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 2:00 p.m. ET before squaring off with host Christopher Newport on Sunday (Dec. 1) at 4:00 p.m. ET.
