Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Pointers Come Up Short in Conference Tilt at Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Things didn't go the Pointers' way as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (4-3-1, 0-1-1) dropped a 4-2 game at UW-Superior (3-1-0, 1-1-0) ending a 21-game unbeaten streak against the Yellowjackets.

UW-Superior took the lead in the first period with a goal at the 5:17 mark.  The lead increased in the second period as the Yellowjackets scored a shorthanded goal at 6:31.  The Pointers deficit hit three goals as UWS scored at the 9:43 mark of the second.

Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) got the Pointers on the board a minute later with assist from Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) and Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./).  But the Yellowjackets put the deficit back at three goals with just over five minutes left in the second period.

Late in the third period, Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) scored on the power play with 1:39 remaining.  Quagliata added his second point of the night with an assist.  UWSP was not able to muster the late-game magic of Friday night and fell, 4-2.

Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made 26 saves in the loss.  UW-Superior goaltender Oscar Svensson also had 26 saves.

The Pointers return home to face Marian on Friday (Nov. 29) and Concordia (Wis.) on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 7:00 p.m. both nights.  Saturday is the Suicide Awareness Jersey Auction night and fans can bid on jerseys now on the DASH app.
