SUPERIOR, Wis. – Things didn't go the Pointers' way as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (4-3-1, 0-1-1) dropped a 4-2 game at UW-Superior (3-1-0, 1-1-0) ending a 21-game unbeaten streak against the Yellowjackets.
UW-Superior took the lead in the first period with a goal at the 5:17 mark. The lead increased in the second period as the Yellowjackets scored a shorthanded goal at 6:31. The Pointers deficit hit three goals as UWS scored at the 9:43 mark of the second.
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) got the Pointers on the board a minute later with assist from
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) and
Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./). But the Yellowjackets put the deficit back at three goals with just over five minutes left in the second period.
Late in the third period,
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) scored on the power play with 1:39 remaining. Quagliata added his second point of the night with an assist. UWSP was not able to muster the late-game magic of Friday night and fell, 4-2.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made 26 saves in the loss. UW-Superior goaltender Oscar Svensson also had 26 saves.
