DE PERE, Wis. – The No. 1 ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (1-1-0) returned the favor with a 3-1 win at No. 4 St. Norbert (1-1-0) to snap the Green Knights' 43- game home unbeaten streak.
In a penalty-filled affair, the Green Knights took the lead late in the first period. The goal was the fourth-straight on the weekend by SNC.
In the second period,
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) netted his first of the year to even the game at 1-1.
Ryan Orgel (Los Angeles, Calif.) got his first point at UWSP with an assist and
Kelly O'Brien (Detroit, Mich./) also had a helper.
The Pointers took the lead in the third period.
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, Wis./) was taken down on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. He converted and the Pointers took a 2-1 advantage.
Later in the third,
Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, Ind./) gave UWSP a two-goal edge. McElhenie had his second point of the period with an assist.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made 16 saves to earn the win for the Pointers. Ryan Bontorin stopped 21 UWSP shots.
The Pointers return home next weekend to face MIAC foes Gustavus Adolphus and St. Thomas on Friday (Nov. 8) and Saturday (Nov. 9). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. both nights at K.B. Willett Arena.
