Women’s Basketball Dominates Third Quarter in Win over CUC

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (2-1) out-scored Concordia University Chicago (1-2) by a 23-9 margin in the third quarter in a 72-58 win at the UW-Whitewater Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.
 
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.  She made UWSP's only two three-pointers of the game.
 
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) led the Pointers in scoring with 14 points.  Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) was also in double figures with 10 points.  She added two of UWSP's six blocks.
 
After falling behind, 2-0, the Pointers rattled off 13 straight with Schmidt and Erin Moran (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scoring four each in the burst as UWSP led 20-6 after one.  Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and Collins combined for three made baskets as the UWSP lead was down to one, 27-26, at halftime.
 
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) started a 6-0 run in the third with a make.  After the Cougars got within three at 35-32, Schmidt scored four straight as UWSP put up a 13-0 run.  Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) and Collins capped another run as the Pointers pushed the lead to 22 early in the fourth.  The Pointers held a double-digit the remainder of the game for the win.
 
Baehman was named to the all-tournament team after Saturday's game.
 
The Pointers will host Lakeland in the home opener on Wednesday (Nov. 20).  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Berg Gym.
