Women’s Basketball Gives DePauw Scare at UWW Tip-Off Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (1-1) missed a potential game-tying three-pointers in the final seconds as No. 10 DePauw (2-0) prevailed with a 66-61 win at the UW-Whitewater Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.

Amber Baehman (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) led a trio of Pointers in double figures with 15 points.  She also had a team-high five rebounds.

Senior Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) and junior Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) each added 13 points.  Fellow junior Erin Moran (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) tied her career high with seven points.

Schmidt had four points and Baehman hit a pair of triples as the Pointers led 14-10 after the first quarter.  Baehman had seven points through the middle of the second quarter, but a 6-0 run gave the Tigers a 33-27 lead at the half.

Cerrato buried a trio of threes in the third quarter as UWSP clawed back from a 12-point deficit.  Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) added a three-pointers of her own and UWSP trailed just 49-47 heading to the fourth.

Schmidt scored three early points and Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) nailed a three as UWSP kept close early in the fourth.  DePauw inched ahead, but a pair of throws by Greenheck and bucket by Baehman got the Pointers within five with a minute to go.  Moran sunk a three to make it a one-score game with 38 seconds remaining.  After the Tigers made 1-of-2 free throws with 16 seconds left, Schmidt's potential game-tying three rimmed out as DePauw prevailed.

The Pointers face Concordia University Chicago on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 3:00 p.m.
