STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (17-5, 3-1) swept visiting UW-Oshkosh (14-6, 3-1) in a league match by scores of 25-19-, 25-17 and 25-23 on Attacking Alzheimer's night.
Senior
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) recorded another double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs for the Pointers. As a team, UWSP hit .302, outhitting the Titans in each of the three sets.
Maddie Lawson (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) had five blocks for the Pointers, tying her season-high for a three set match.
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) led all players with 31 assists.
Mazie Nagel (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) and
Tara Emme (St. Nazianz, Wis./Valders) were in double-figures with 12 digs and 11 kills, respectively.
Behind a trio of kills from Gehl, the Pointers jumped ahead 8-2 en route to a first-set victory. It was again the UWSP attack in the second set that swayed momentum in a 10-4 run with kills from Gehl, Emme, Nagel and
Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert).
A block by Lawson and Adams gave UWSP a 17-13 lead in the third set, but the Titans battled back to tie the set at 23-all. After a setting error by UWO gave the Pointers match point, it was a nice set attack by Adams that sealed the sweep.
Wednesday's Attacking Alzheimer's night raised over $1700 for the Alzheimer's Association.
The Pointers travel to Whitewater for the Dig Panici Classic with an opening day match at 6:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 11) against Illinois Wesleyan.
