LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior
April Gehl (Hilbert, Wis./Hilbert) became the all-time leaders in career kills an the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (21-7, 4-2) swept UW-La Crosse (13-12, 1-5) in league play on Wednesday.
Gehl racked up a game-high 13 kills to bring her career total to 1,724, breaking the previous school record held by Shelly Maus of 1,715. Gehl had a double-double in the win with a game-high 14 digs.
Ellie Adams (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) also had a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
A pair of kills by Gehl in the midst of a 14-3 run propelled the Pointers to an easy 25-12 win in the first set. At 14-13 of the second set, Gehl recorded her record-setting kill. She then reeled off kills on five-straight points for UWSP in a 25-19 set two victory.
Gehl added a trio of kills as the Pointers rolled out another 14-3 run in the third set to finish the sweep with a 25-13 set win.
UWSP travels to Mequon on Saturday to face Carroll and Concordia in the final non-conference matches of the season. Game times are set for 12:00 and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
