STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (2-4, 1-2) was held scoreless in a 38-0 loss to No. 3 UW-Whitewater (6-0, 3-0) in Saturday's Homecoming Game. It was the first time UWSP was shut out since 2005 and the first time at home since 1997.
Senior quarterback
Matt Urmanski (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) completed 22 of 34 passes for 205 yards. Junior
ShamaJ Williams (Racine, Wis./Lutheran) led the rushing attack with 53 yards on 11 carries. He also caught five passes from Urmanski for a team-best 64 yards. Senior
Jonte Webb (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) caught six passes for 49 yards.
UWSP's defense had three first-half interceptions, but the Pointers were unable to capitalize.
Kameron Kryzanski (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) led UWSP with eight tackles and
Berkley Corvino (Weston, Wis./DC Everest) added seven.
On the first possession of the game, the Warhawks caused a fumble and returned it for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.
Donovan Lucas (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) and
Jacob Morgan (Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) had interceptions on each of UWW's offensive possessions in the first quarter as the Pointers stayed within striking distance.
In the second quarter, it took UWW just eight plays to go 84 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Later in the quarter,
OJ James (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) came up with UWSP's third interception, but the Pointers were held without points in the first half.
The Warhawks took the opening possession of the second half 75 yards to extend the lead to 21-0. UWSP held UWW off the scoreboard until early in the fourth and a field goal made it 24-0.
Consecutive possessions with touchdowns for the Warhawks put the game out of reach.
The Pointers travel to Menomonie on Saturday (Oct. 26) for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at UW-Stout.
